Main Settings (Page)

You can create a community page when in a community folder or in a community editor. To create a page you must choose a page template and select whether or not to inherit future changes to the template. The template you choose affects the layout of the page, its default name, the portlets on the page, and whether or not there is a Content Canvas (an area for free form portlets).

If you inherit the page template, you cannot delete portlets associated with the page template, but you can add portlets to the page created from the template. If you do not inherit the page template, you can delete portlets associated with the template, add new portlets, and change the page layout.

A community page is like other portal objects in that it can be copied (to another community folder), localized, migrated, and have unique security settings. All users with access to a community may not see all of the pages within it, based on their access rights. Also, different users might see different combinations of portlets, based on their access rights.

Pages added to the community can be deleted. Pages that are part of a community's template cannot be deleted from the community, but can be re-ordered or copied to another community folder. If you delete a page from the community editor, that page is deleted from the portal and no longer appears as an object in the community folder.

To modify the page template:

  1. Under Page Template, click the page template name.

  2. Modify the template as needed and click Finish.

To define the page:

  1. Define the page content and layout:

  1. Optionally, to define page properties and names, click Properties and Names. To learn more, click here. (The default and localized page names come from the page template.)

  2. Click Finish.

The page you configure will inherit the header and footer of the community that contains the page.
